Discover, sit down, and admire the valley from a giant’s point of view!
Colourful, oversized, and placed in the most scenic spots of the valley: the giant benches are an invitation to stop, sit down, and see the landscape with fresh eyes. Halfway between art installations and unusual viewpoints, the Big Benches of Val di Non are perfect for a walk with a twist!
Loved by both kids and adults, they’re easy to reach and offer stunning views in every season. Most of all, they tell the story of those who created them, the place where they stand, and the local area they aim to promote.
Let’s explore the 3 Big Benches of Val di Non together!
The Groppello Big Bench in Romallo
Surrounded by the terraced vineyards of Romallo, Big Bench No. 287 is a tribute to Groppello, the native grape variety of Val di Non. Its bright yellow colour adds energy to the peaceful valley and invites visitors to take a moment and enjoy the view. From up there, your gaze stretches over cultivated fields, forests, and the beautiful Lake Santa Giustina.
This bench was created by the owners of Cantina LasteRosse, a small family-run winery passionately committed to preserving and promoting this unique grape.
The bench is located along the themed trail “Al Meleto”, an easy, scenic walk that tells the story of the valley’s deep connection with apple growing, a true symbol of Val di Non.
Where: Romallo, Municipality of Novella
How to get there: On foot from the parking lot behind Romallo church. An easy 10–15 minute walk through the countryside (also suitable for strollers). Just follow the signs for the “Panchina Gigante”.
The Baciona in Tuenno
Two metres high and four metres long, the Banciona is a massive wooden bench carved from half a trunk, set in one of the most breathtaking viewpoints above the village of Tuenno. Located in the area called “El Malget”, it offers a wide-open view over Val di Non.
The idea behind it is to enhance this mountainous area, shaped over centuries by traditional alpine farming: from the pastures of Malga Culmei to sheep grazing and the welcoming El Malget farmhouse, where you can stop for a tasty snack.
Where: El Malget – Cul del Parol, above Tuenno (Municipality of Ville d’Anaunia)
How to get there: Park near the Agriturismo El Malget. From there, a short, easy walk on a gravel road leads to the bench. The path is only suitable for off-road strollers.
The Big Bench of Taio
This giant bench is located in Località Doss, above the village of Taio, overlooking the orchards and mountains of Val di Non. It’s Big Bench No. 378 and is part of the official Big Bench Community Project. Its deep blue colour was chosen to reflect the clear skies that often shine over the mountains.
It was built by volunteers from the ASUC of Taio, who chose this spot to offer visitors a peaceful, social, and panoramic place to relax and admire the spectacular views of Val di Non and the Brenta Dolomites.
Where: Località Doss, above Taio (Municipality of Predaia)
How to get there: Park at the Taio sports field. From there, walk a short stretch of paved road up to the bench. The route is stroller-friendly.
Why visit all of them?
Each bench tells a different story. But they all share one thing: they invite you to slow down, admire the landscape with wonder, and rediscover Val di Non with a touch of playfulness.
They’re perfect for a day trip and easy to reach on foot. They’re beautiful in every season—whether surrounded by flowers, autumn colours, or snow. And they’re ideal for a fun bench-hunting adventure with kids!
