A long excursion, but one with a well distributed difference in altitude that takes you to the spectacular Campo Flavona and to unusual views of the famous Lake Tovel.
The proposed hike snakes its way entirely along SAT trails, with utterly reliable signs. From the spectacular Lake Tovel, you gradually climb up to the enormous amphitheatre that is Campo Flavona with the namesake malga. Then take the trail that cuts cross the ridges of Val Scura Peak and Val Strangola Peak with gentle ups and downs, affording views from the top over Lake Tovel. Once you reach Termoncello Pass, make your way down the steep trail leading you back to the Lake via the Rislà waterfall.
Upstream of Malga Flavona, the dolomitic rocks conceal some incredible fossil formations. It will be worth your while stopping for a small treasure hunt!
Once you reach Termoncello Pass, you can continue along the trail for another 5 minutes to reach Malga Termoncello. With its huge prairie, it overlooks the lower Val di Non.
