Another pleasant gentle path overlooking Val di Non following the tracks of an ancient irrigation channel.
The Margherita path weaves gently along the path of the irrigation channel, the “Lez”, built over 160 years ago to irrigate the land in Terres, Flavon and Cunevo to make use of the water from the Tresenica stream in Val di Tovel. The path then enters into the pleasant pine forest above the villages in Contà and can be easily identified as the track of the old aqueduct is always clear, where it is still possible to see the water flowing. Along the path there are equipped areas where you can stop for a break and you may catch a glimpse of roe deer in the woods. Anyone walking with children will be pleased to know that at the end of the trail, slightly above the irrigation basin of Terres, there is a lovely play area entirely made of wood in the cool shade of the pine forest. There is also a cooking spot and a large table.
Anyone wanting to extend the trail can continue beyond the irrigation basin of Terres and take the tunnel which after 2.5 km leads to Val di Tovel. The tunnel is open from 1 May to 31 October but bear in mind that the temperature inside is 10 degrees all year round, even in summer!
There are no eating places along the trail so it is best to bring everything you need for a picnic in one of the equipped areas.
