In summer, the Rio Sass canyon is a must-see at night too, with a whole new look that lights it up, making it a spectacle you wouldn't expect!
In the evening, when darkness falls, the Canyon is illuminated with miraculous lights and colours, enveloping visitors in a dreamlike journey into the depths of the rock.
It is a truly unique experience, a kaleidoscope of colourful shades that make the grandeur of the canyon even more evocative.
Canyon at night 2 times a week
Until the middle of November, every evening on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, starting at 8.30 pm by booking only, you can take part in the night tour of the illuminated canyon.
The exploration at night, always guided, is shorter, taking you about half way through the canyon, an extremely evocative and special part.
In fact, the path seems different from what you usually see by day, so the experience really is completely new.
A fabulous route
The journey begins under the stars, starting from Piazza di Fondo, to reach the Canyon hut first where you will put on a protective helmet and then get to the entrance of the route.
Here begins a path of light waves that guide us to the beginning of the walkway, where the chromite patterns create a play on light above the Rio (stream) that flows down to the foot of the rocks with a calm rhythm and almost soft sound.
Slightly further ahead the stream plunges into the Rio Sass Canyon and over time has carved the deep gorge of this canyon.
You will then arrive at the actual entrance to the canyon.
What awaits you is an almost enchanted vision of the place, of the rocks above and below, which appear and disappear, constantly mutating with soft and fascinating, sometimes astounding, shades of colour.
The rocks reveal their morphological features in an even more extraordinary way with very ancient red algae and even inverted giant’s kettles. Then there is the swirling movement of the water, all emphasised by the soft light of the reflectors.
A changeable path to be immortalised with photographs that will undoubtedly be spectacular.
You are sure to find yourself staring upwards in awe.
You can repeat the experience time after time because it is always new; in fact every year the lighting will be different for new colourful wonders to be re-discovered!
