At 2,116 m, Monte Roen is the highest point of the Mendola ridge, the watershed between Trentino and South Tyrol. The famous footpath number 500 runs the full length of the Mendola ridge and crosses the panoramic summit of Monte Roen. It is a very popular area, both for the wonderful views it offers from the summit and for the delightful Alpine dairies and huts that dot the slopes of this mountain. In summer, the summit is the domain of hikers and mountain bikers. They arrive from both the Trentino and South Tyrol side: the former offers a dense network of footpaths allowing you to always take a new route to the summit. The latter is served by the Mendola funicular railway which takes people from Caldaro to the Passo Mendola in just 9 minutes. In winter, however, the summit of Monte Roen is the preferred destination for snowshoe walkers and ski mountaineers who find this the perfect place for safely enjoying these winter sports.
