Monte Lira lies along footpath 500, the famous route connecting Passo Mendola and the summit of Monte Roen (2,116 m). It is a spectacular viewpoint overlooking Lake Caldaro. It can be easily reached with a 45-minute walk from Passo Mendola and it is just a few minutes from the homely Rifugio Mezzavia. In German, this 1,650 m high summit is called Lawinenspitze, or the “Avalanche Peak”. The summit is so lofty that many paragliders take off from here to fly down to the valley, landing on the southern shores of Lake Caldaro.
