Lake Tret is a small Alpine lake at 1,605 metres, lying right on the border between Trentino and South Tyrol. Curiously, while the residents of the Val di Non call it Lake Tret the people living in the nearby German-speaking Deutschnonsberg villages of St Felix and Unsere Liebe Frau im Walde call it Lake Felixer Weiher! The lake can be reached by a gentle 40-minute walk from Plazze di Tret or St Felix. Near the lake are Malga San Felice and Rifugio Waldruhe which serve up traditional Trentino and South Tyrolean dishes.
One curiosity about Lake Tret: every morning of the year, whatever the outside temperature, a regular group of people from the valley run up to the lake at 6:30 for an energising dip before tackling the day! During winter, when the lake is covered with a thick layer of ice, these hardy types make a hole in the ice and take the plunge anyway!
