Castel Belasi

castelbelasi_Sergio_Zanotti__8_rid.jpgFor over a thousand years, Castel Belasi has guarded the narrow passage between the rocks that opens up to the Val di Non. Granted as a fiefdom to Ulrico di Ragogna in 1291, it passed to Ulrico di Termeno, the forefather of the Khuen family in 1368. The most prominent member of the family was Pancrazio Kheun Belasi, the lord of the castle between the 1460s and 1523, the year of his death. He is responsible for creating the current imposing outline of the castle.
Behind the perimeter wall surrounding the castle is the pentagonal keep which is similar in shape to the nearby ruins of Castel Sporo near Sporminore. The manor house is protected by a double curtain wall and its outer-most fortifications were constructed around the 16th century whilst the main surrounding wall was erected in the mid-1400s. Two 16th century watch towers guard the two entrances, to the south and east.

Castel Belasi is open from 1st June until 27th October 2024!
