When I was a little girl, we had a small stable at home with several animals, like many families here in the Val di Non. Chickens, rabbits, pigs and even cows for milk. It was so much fun helping out my grandmother with the milking and then making cheese. I remember it like it was yesterday!
These days, not many families have these sorts of animals in their yards. Life has got much more hectic, a few farms remain and the animals live happily, they are well looked after and cared for by their owners who, in many cases, have turned their barns into educational farms. In these farms, children can see animals which they don’t usually get to meet and can find out how products like cheese and butter are made. Have you ever milked a cow? It is an incredible experience, you feel at one with the animal.
The animals most loved by children also include horses and there are also stables here where you can try to ride a pony and for big kids like me you can have a go at riding them or climb aboard a horse-drawn carriage!
