Let me tell you a story. This story was told to me by my father. He talked of enchanted places, hidden among dense forests, of dizzying waterfalls, of tunnels where only the brave would dare to tread and of potholes. Cold water, yes, but incredibly clear. Places that hardly anyone knew about. Conscripts in the 1960s would hide out there, climbing down the steep rock face to spend their summer afternoons here.
Are you intrigued? In that case, I’ll continue. The fairytale became reality. We are at the dawn of the new millennium and this little underground world formed of hollows, potholes, caves and narrow tunnels was rediscovered, restored and made accessible to all. This is how the canyons of the Val di Non were born.
You recognise them now, don’t you? Of course, because since then these holes in my land have become so famous that some people even call us the “Valley of Canyons”. But don’t expect places on the scale of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We are still Nonesi: we’re thrifty here! Our canyons are intimate, quite narrow, but I assure you that you will still be left wide-eyed in amazement when you see them. You can visit some of them whenever you like.
For the other two, the most impressive ones, you need to be accompanied by an expert guide who will provide you with a helmet and a waterproof when you set off.
Ready? Off we go!
